Vermeer Inspired Artist Transforms Mom & Daughter Photo

We’re going back to Vermeer, and there is light coming through the window. The woman is pouring a pitcher of milk. There are oranges on the windowsill. Oranges and fruit meant wealth then.

This baby is my third granddaughter, Grace, who lives in Rome, Italy. Her mother, Sara, is the one giving her a bath.

That is a mother’s smiling at simple pleasures. I think of Holland, my son Luke’s daughter, who like most children, enjoys many simple pleasures - including playtime during an evening bath.

I built the fireplace to add a little more depth and believability to the set.
