William Merrit Chase Inspired - Woman With Sword

This photograph is another image that relates to William Merritt Chase and alludes to one of his paintings - but this picture is intended for my daughters and granddaughters and the fact that not only are they young and beautiful, but they’re also warriors and strong individuals.

I wanted to portray a feeling of strength for/in my children and grandchildren.

The Samurai sword was my Uncle’s and he brought it back from World War II. He was a combat photographer and was a prisoner of war in China. A survivor of over 17 amphibious landings in the Pacific Theatre, he served under Admiral Nimitz.

Today 26 of his historical photos are displayed in the Nimitz Museum. His pass from the Admiral stated, "From Ship to Ship to Ship To Shore, wherever the action is." That gave him a unique vantage point to witness and contributed to the efforts of the Greatest Generation.
